This immaculate and artfully-renovated view home is located just a few blocks from Cole Valley’s bustling retail corridor. Its current owners have undertaken a detailed and thoughtful redesign suitable for today’s modern lifestyle while graciously preserving quintessential Craftsman elements such as dramatic stained glass windows, inlaid floors and original molding. The owners have also thoroughly upgraded the systems, including new concrete and structural steel in the garage, and added finely tailored luxury features such as dual-zone heating, multiple skylights, custom window treatments, new dual-glazed windows and recessed automated lights in many of the rooms.
Enjoy an inviting and thoughtful layout with beautifully-proportional traditional public rooms on the main level and three spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms and an office on the upper level. The professionally-appointed kitchen has been completely remodeled with custom cabinetry, center island, granite counters, bar-seating, a wet bar with beverage fridge, and pantry. For the dedicated chef, polished details include two ovens, a built-in below-counter microwave, and an in-wall pot filler serving the 6-burner gas burning Wolf range. The kitchen flows into a formal dining room whose classic built-in hutch and wood-burning fireplace is fronted with leaded glass doors, and pocket doors from the kitchen are finished with stained glass inserts. The living room has custom Smith & Noble drapes, a wood-burning fireplace, and beautiful tile hearth and can also be closed off with stained glass pocket doors. This main level is completed by a sophisticated powder room (published in several design magazines): boldly redone in a retro-steampunk style, featuring a whimsical mixture of exposed copper pipes, pressed tin, designer sconces fabricated by a local artist, and custom fixtures.
If you are seeking top-notch indoor-outdoor flow then you will be delighted by the direct walkout access from the kitchen to a flat wooden patio served by built-in bench and plumbed-in natural gas BBQ grill - easily accessible. Beyond the patio lies a dramatic landscaped yard, which includes natural stone pavers exquisitely encircled by a lemon tree and flowers, and culminating in a dramatic rocky-outcropping at the back and a hillside trail and sunny stone bench. This attractive and private oasis is ideal for alfresco dining or playtime with your family.
There are terrific views towards the Pacific Ocean, Golden Gate Bridge, Sutro Forest, and Golden Gate Park from the comfortable upholstered window seat in the master bedroom. The large ensuite bathroom and stylish guest bathroom on this level have both been finely crafted with custom cabinetry, lavish fixtures, modern tilework, walk-in showers, and large skylights. The spacious master bedroom has an alcove that works nicely as an office or zoom room and it also features a large, walk-in closet with custom storage, custom designer Roman shades and mood lighting. A laundry center is conveniently located on this level. Two additional bedrooms, one bathed in light from 3 directions, complete this level.
There is also a huge attic, offering plenty of room to stand up, partially-finished with plywood flooring, and safely accessible via a convenient pull-down hinged ladder. This space offers fantastic storage.
The large garage fits 2 cars, provides plenty of space for storage, and is accessed internally from the home. There is space to park a 3rd car in the driveway.
This imposing residence serves up instant curb appeal with its tidy front landscaping and picturesque facade featuring brick accents, Tudor-style trim and wooden shingles. Ideally situated on the western slope of prestigious Ashbury Heights, it is just steps away from the best of Cole Valley. Zazie cafe, La Boulangerie, Golden Gate Park and MUNI are all just a few minutes by foot from your front door!

1154 Cole straddles two phenomenal neighborhoods: Cole Valley and Ashbury Heights.
Cole Valley is anchored by legendary Cole Street, a corridor of chic eateries, coffee shops and down-to-earth, practical services that you will patronize all the time. It's a beloved and quintessential San Francisco neighborhood that has everything you need.
You'll want to take your out-of-town guests to Zazie Cafe, which arguably offers the city's finest brunch. Or take your newspaper to La Boulangerie and idle away a few sweet hours on their outdoor patio. One of the city's best cheese shops is located here, as well as the flagship branch of Cole Hardware (for more than 100 yrs, its employees have been helping customers actually find what they are looking for - it’s a whole different experience than visiting a big-box store).
There's an independent pharmacy, a gym, and a superb toy shop for the kids. One of the newer arrivals, the Arabic Comfort Food Cafe on Carl Street, offers an awesome healthy lunch menu and delectable rice pudding. For birthday parties, you will have to consider the Ice Cream Shop. For more grown-up food, try Padrecito (for upscale Mexican fare). Finnegans Pub and Kezar Bar are great spots to have a beer and watch the playoffs on TV, or meet up with friends. Gourmet foods and coffee can be enjoyed at Luke’s Local and there is also Whole Foods down on Stanyan for groceries.
A little further past Cole Valley you will find the Circus Center, a great resource for kids and adults alike. UCSF and 9th ave are located a little farther to the west, offering hundreds of stores and eateries. Golden Gate Park is within easy walking distance, so you can enjoy the Kezar Stadium, the Koret Playground, Carousel, Botanical Gardens and Academy of Sciences without having to drive and park. The Haight Ashbury is also located nearby, known for its exuberant mix of trendy clothes stores and hip restaurants. For the "Urban Hiker" there are several unique attractions: up above Cole Valley, Tank Hill is a great spot to put down a blanket and watch the 4th of July fireworks, the secret Pemberton Steps await your discovery while the meandering secret paths of Sutro Forest, reminiscent of Muir Woods, can be accessed from the top of Edgewood in nearby Parnassus Heights.
Prestigious Ashbury Heights boasts some of the most impressive architecture in the city, much of it in the style of 1154 Clayton - large stately Edwardian homes with picturesque and historic facades. There are many graciously understated mansions tucked into the hillside streets behind 1154 Clayton, for example on Piedmont and Masonic. It's the ideal neighborhood to walk your dog in the evening - calm, elegant and inspiring. If you are feeling athletic, you might want to explore the nearby hidden stairway on 17th Street which will take you up to "Mount Olympus" at the very top of Ashbury Heights!
For commuting to downtown, Cole Valley can't be beat - the nearby N-MUNI goes underground at Carl Street ensuring a rapid trip through the tunnel to the Castro and beyond. This is perfect for getting into work in the city, or weekend trips to the movies or the Museum of Modern Art - leave the car at home. But if you prefer to drive, it's easy to navigate to the financial district via Fell Street or to the northside of town including Crissy Field via Masonic.
