1154 Cole straddles two phenomenal neighborhoods: Cole Valley and Ashbury Heights.

Cole Valley is anchored by legendary Cole Street, a corridor of chic eateries, coffee shops and down-to-earth, practical services that you will patronize all the time. It's a beloved and quintessential San Francisco neighborhood that has everything you need.

You'll want to take your out-of-town guests to Zazie Cafe, which arguably offers the city's finest brunch. Or take your newspaper to La Boulangerie and idle away a few sweet hours on their outdoor patio. One of the city's best cheese shops is located here, as well as the flagship branch of Cole Hardware (for more than 100 yrs, its employees have been helping customers actually find what they are looking for - it’s a whole different experience than visiting a big-box store).

There's an independent pharmacy, a gym, and a superb toy shop for the kids. One of the newer arrivals, the Arabic Comfort Food Cafe on Carl Street, offers an awesome healthy lunch menu and delectable rice pudding. For birthday parties, you will have to consider the Ice Cream Shop. For more grown-up food, try Padrecito (for upscale Mexican fare). Finnegans Pub and Kezar Bar are great spots to have a beer and watch the playoffs on TV, or meet up with friends. Gourmet foods and coffee can be enjoyed at Luke’s Local and there is also Whole Foods down on Stanyan for groceries.

A little further past Cole Valley you will find the Circus Center, a great resource for kids and adults alike. UCSF and 9th ave are located a little farther to the west, offering hundreds of stores and eateries. Golden Gate Park is within easy walking distance, so you can enjoy the Kezar Stadium, the Koret Playground, Carousel, Botanical Gardens and Academy of Sciences without having to drive and park. The Haight Ashbury is also located nearby, known for its exuberant mix of trendy clothes stores and hip restaurants. For the "Urban Hiker" there are several unique attractions: up above Cole Valley, Tank Hill is a great spot to put down a blanket and watch the 4th of July fireworks, the secret Pemberton Steps await your discovery while the meandering secret paths of Sutro Forest, reminiscent of Muir Woods, can be accessed from the top of Edgewood in nearby Parnassus Heights.

Prestigious Ashbury Heights boasts some of the most impressive architecture in the city, much of it in the style of 1154 Clayton - large stately Edwardian homes with picturesque and historic facades. There are many graciously understated mansions tucked into the hillside streets behind 1154 Clayton, for example on Piedmont and Masonic. It's the ideal neighborhood to walk your dog in the evening - calm, elegant and inspiring. If you are feeling athletic, you might want to explore the nearby hidden stairway on 17th Street which will take you up to "Mount Olympus" at the very top of Ashbury Heights!

For commuting to downtown, Cole Valley can't be beat - the nearby N-MUNI goes underground at Carl Street ensuring a rapid trip through the tunnel to the Castro and beyond. This is perfect for getting into work in the city, or weekend trips to the movies or the Museum of Modern Art - leave the car at home. But if you prefer to drive, it's easy to navigate to the financial district via Fell Street or to the northside of town including Crissy Field via Masonic.
